About Me, Jane Macdonald & My Tarot Journey
About four decades ago, my sister and I embarked on our Tarot journey, acquiring a set of cards and accompanying books for a mere £5 in total. This modest purchase ignited a path of exploration, as we discreetly read for friends and family, conscious of our church affiliations.
Initially, I didn't foresee Tarot developing into a professional pursuit. It was only around a decade ago, when I found myself with more time, that I refined my methods and delved deeper into the practice, intertwining intuition with a rich tapestry of Tarot's history. Since beginning in the 80s, Tarot and oracle cards have always accompanied close friendly gatherings and celebrations. By 2017, my interest had evolved; I've found my practice ebbs and flows, sometimes using the cards daily, other times less so. Generally, few are aware that I do readings; after experiencing some unsettling moments with advertising, I've opted to let divine intervention lead those seeking guidance to me, ensuring alignment with the wonderful people who cross my path. In 2018, I wove Tarot and Oracle readings into the intuitive development classes I conducted in person and created a practical workbook, crafted simply in Word, without today's sophisticated tools.
In this current phase of my business, I concentrate more on readings coupled with intuitive energy healing, coaching, and spiritual development classes, rather than offering one-on-one sessions. For now, I share my insights; I've refreshed the original course workbook to keep my passion for Tarot alive and launched a foundational course to broaden the teachings. I believe in the energy of duality—intuition and study go hand in hand like yin and yang, dark and light. I would never advise a student to discard the book, as Tarot's history encompasses centuries of rich learnings. Why dismiss this wealth of knowledge? Instead, I encourage leading with the intuitive, creative mind, exploring and attuning to the beautiful artwork and energy of the querent as the primary source for readings, whilst using the time-honoured meanings of the cards as an expertly tuned supplementary aspect. Here's a concise note on the key elements of Tarot and the basics to learn which you will find within the intriguing pages of this magazine style learning journal, perfect for beginners or those looking to deepen their understanding:
**Key Elements of Tarot:**
1. **The Deck:** A standard Tarot deck consists of 78 cards, divided into the Major Arcana (22 cards) and the Minor Arcana (56 cards). The Major Arcana deals with significant life events and spiritual lessons, while the Minor Arcana focuses on day-to-day issues and personal growth.
2. **Major Arcana:** These cards represent major life themes and spiritual lessons. Examples include The Fool, The Lovers, and The Tower. Each card has a deep symbolic meaning and often indicates a significant turning point or transformation.
3. **Minor Arcana:** Divided into four suits - Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles - these cards reflect everyday life and are further divided into numbered cards (Ace to 10) and court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, King). They provide insight into specific situations and personal interactions.
4. **Card Meanings:** Each card has both an upright and a reversed meaning, which can change the interpretation of the card in a reading. Understanding these meanings is crucial for accurate readings.
5. **Spreads:** Tarot cards are laid out in specific patterns called spreads, which help structure the reading. Common spreads include the three-card spread (past, present, future) and the Celtic Cross, which provides a more detailed analysis, both of which and more you can find in the content.
**Basics to Learn:**
1. **Familiarize Yourself with the Cards:** Start by studying each card's imagery, symbolism, and traditional meanings which are detailed in the pages, this will help you deepen your understanding. and connect your existing knowledge, I suggest purchasing a Rider Waite Deck or one with similar imagery.
2. **Practice Regularly:** Begin with simple spreads and practice interpreting the cards. The more you practice, the more intuitive your readings will become.
3. **Use the notes pages as a Tarot Journal:** Record your readings, interpretations, and any insights or feelings you have about the cards. This will help you track your progress and refine your skills.
4. **Learn from Others:** Join our Tarot community which can be accessed when uplevelling to the tarot course, connect with me for 1:2:1 sessions or join a group in your local community. Learning from experienced readers can provide valuable insights and feedback.
5. **Trust Your Intuition:** While traditional meanings are important, your intuition plays a significant role in Tarot readings. Trust your gut feelings and personal insights, our journal with free meditations will help you tap into and refine your intuitive abilities.
By mastering these key elements and basics, you'll be well on your way to becoming proficient in Tarot reading. Whether for personal growth or professional practice, Tarot can be a powerful tool for insight and guidance. Most importantly, have fun, see the joy in the mastery and creative aspects, allow yourself to grow and evolve.
I'd love to hear how you get on,
Lots of love and magic,
